SONG - love yourself
ReplyDeleteI have chosen the song “Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber.
Here is the video link: https://youtu.be/oyEuk8j8imI.
I like this song because of the topic it is about, the selflove. For me it is very important to be aware of yourself, things you love, the way you want to be treated, and the situations you can not put up with. This song reminds me the importance of first loving yourself in terms of being able to love someone else then.
The song is about a Justin Bieber love story that went wrong, with a girl that uses him instead of loving him well. In the song he describes the attitudes she used to have, and tells her that now he is better alone. Also, in an ironic way, he recommends her loving herself if she loves her appearance so much.
Question “Verb to be” : (present- to justin) Are you concerned about your decisions? (past) Were you pretending in that relationship? (future) Will you be better on your own?
Questions possibility/ability: can you give a piece of advice to someone who is in the same situation you describe in your song ?
Question in the past: Did you realize what was happening?
Question habitual actions: Do you always put yourself first?
Question in the future: are you going to stay single from now on ?
Indirect question: i would like to know how you learned to put yourself first
Recommend: I recommend being polite when giving advice to a friend.
Look up to: if you look up to your boyfriend too much you can end up disappointed
C1: if you don’t listen to your family you will make mistakes
C2: if your partner didn’t back you up, you would have to leave.
C3: if you hadn’t known yourself deeply, you wouldn’t have had an idea of what was better for you.
Giving advice: I think you should go out with friends and have fun.
Malena: Very good work! Attention: .....he recommends (her loving )SHE SHOULD LOVE herself if she loves her appearance so much.

ReplyDeleteBlackbird → it's my favourite song because it takes me back to when I was a child. As a baby, my father played this song and I used to smile. The Beatles' song "Blackbird" is a message of hope and encouragement for the Black community during the American Civil Rights Movement. The song is a direct response to the racial struggles and violence of the 1960s civil rights movement, McCartney intended the song as a message of encouragement for those facing persecution, especially young Black women.
c- Let´s practise question asking: Ask personal questions and questions about another person related to the song you have chosen.
1-Question "Verb to be" (past, present and future)
Did you know this song is to encourage the black community?
2- Question Possibility/ Ability (Can/ Could)
Can you tell me in which year Blackbird was released?
3- Question in the past (Did.....) / (Was. Were)
Did the song make you feel emotional? Was the message of the song clear for you?
4- Question Habitual Action (S. Present)
Are you used to listening to The Beatles music?
5. Question in the future (will)
Now that you know the meaning, will you listen to this song from a different perspective?
6-Indirect question (I wonder.../ I would like to know.../ Could you tell me......?)
I wonder how Paul McCartney came up with the idea.
d- Write examples with the following verbs, phrasal verbs, grammar items:
7-recommend- suggest- enjoy- look forward to
I suggest you should listen the acoustic version
8-put up with- look up to- put off- run out of- make up
At the time the song was released, many black women were putting up with discrimination
I tried to learn the guitar chords but I ran out of patience.
9-Conditional 1 (Simple present. future)
10-Conditional 2 (Simple past- would/ could/ might verb)
11-Conditonal 3 (Past perfect - would / could / might have+past participle)
12-Giving advice (If I were you....../ should/ why don´t you.....?
When I first listened to the song as an adult, I enjoyed listening to it, as it was the first time. I look forward to showing this song to my kids or grandchildren and transmitting the sense of peace I first felt. I recommend you should listen the song because it has a deeper meaning than it seems. Many people make up different interpretations of the song, however according to McCartney, it's to encourage the black community to fight back. Personally, I always put off analyzing the meaning but I promise, if you have the lyrics in mind, the song will change, if I had known the meaning earlier, I would have appreciated the song even more than I did. Many well known artists nowadays look up to Paul McCartney, if more artists did, we would live in a world full of poetry and marvellous music. If i were you i would listen to the acoustic version.
Sophia:Good!! Check, please:
