ReplyDeleteI think the spirit of a song is basically given by the lyrics, but it's obviously the music could change it, because you can give it a different rythim and makes you feel in many different ways. Moreover when we are argentinian people and it's not simple to understand the song at the first time.
And every singer or group has his own personality, so everyone communicates one different thing.
I think the languages are important too. Each language has its own expressions and only the original language of the song can communicate what the singer wants with it.

So it is very important to musicians to choose the right music in order to transmit the real spirit of the song. In this way the singers and their voices give their last touch to the song, so they have to search the best way to interpret the song in order to trasmit what they want.

Actually, I prefer both. I usually listen all types of music, but in different situations. Louis Amstrong's version is beautiful and is a classical song. And, The Ramone's version is fastastic, is full of energy and represent the punk itself.

I don't think that 'music' can change the spirit of a song, but I think the singers can do it. All singers are differents. Each one has her or his own personality, characteristics, rhythm, voice, style and performance. And that make each one unique.
3- What about languages? What would happen if this song were sung in Spanish?
Languages can make a very beautiful song turn to an horrible one. A Spanish cover usually are awful, more if the song is classic and very recognised. People tend to not like a change when they are used to something.
